May 12 2011. Sunset captured at base camp. Was expecting better with earlier cloud cover and which disappeared by the time sun actually set (2040hrs). Captured with Oly E5 and 50-200m on full 200mmm focal length for sun detail.
28 April 2011. 22º radius halos are visible all over the world and throughout the year. Visible whenever the sky is wisped or hazed with thin cirrus clouds which contain ice crystals in even the hottest climes. This image was captured in the 25C heat of the Portuguese Med. The halo is always the same diameter regardless of its position in the sky. Captured with Olympus E5 & 12-60mm SWD lens. High cirrostratus cloud forms the halo on the advancing edge of warm fronts with their associated rain. Many halos are not associated with frontal systems and to see one is not a reliable sign of bad weather. They are things of beauty, not bad news.
April 26 2011. The thing I love the most about travelling R&R is the varying weather. I can never put the camera down. Well with sunsets like this could you resist? Lovely mixed skies of cumulus, altocumulus undercutting the higher level cirrus. Western Med near Portugal. Dramatic tone effect using the wonderful filter on the Olympus E5 with 12-60mm SWD lens.
