Weather, UK

A selection of weather images from my tiny island. Wild and calm, wet and dry and most definitely extreme in one way shape or form.
EDIT - the occasional Euro location may also be thrown in this gallery too ;-)

May 10 2011. Wonderful dark wild skies set against a nice rape oil crop. The turbulent deck of stratocumulus cloud contains elements of a 'Whales Mouth' effect. This is caused by cooler air sinking from an adjacent precipitation storm/cell rolling along in the lower levels and undercutting warmer air thus pushing it aloft. The combination of sinking and rising of different airmass densities creates this effect. Wild and beautiful. Captured with Olympus E5 & 12-60mm SWD - 2 images stitched.
April 28 2011. Fantastic variety of cloud in this shot captured in the beautiful port of Portimao, Portugal. Cirrostratus fills the upper levels, with lower level Cumulus congestus building over the mountains in the distance (due to converging offshore & onshore winds) with very striking Cirrus floccus lining up in the lower foreground. A great cloud shot. Captured with Olympus E5, 12-60mm SWD lens - 4 shots stitched in panorama.
