Cape Verde

Cape Verde 2014. The sprit, paradise, adventure and culture of African, Brazilian & Portuguese all mixed into one wonderful place, a mere 16 deg N of the equator. The trip was very chilled with a hint of adventure thrown in. All images captured with Olympus OM-D E-M1 and 12-40mm, 75-300mm lenses - OM-D portability/quality is paramount for my travels nowadays. I did also Scuba dive on the trip but had no uw housing so no diving pics, sorry. Shame because the marine life was spectacular and abundant. A number of the in-camera art filters were used to good effect, namely Dramatic Tone, Key Line (Love this new one), Diorama & Gentle Sepia.

  • Cape Verde has its fair share of dogs and they become instant regulars with the tourists, sharing the sun umbrellas :-) Fortunately all animals are taken well care of on the island via the many clinics and most roamers are actually owned and who let them wander. Dog registration is compulsory now in order to control animals (& owners) due to the growing tourism.

  • The 'Blue Eye'. Created by a shaft of sunlight piercing a hole in volcanic rocks as it hits the water. Situated on the north of Sal island.

  • Just before the sun disappeared below low horizon cloud an array of crepuscular rays pierced downwards to light up the Cape Verde coastline. Do watch out for this effect, it is common and equally spectacular.
