1. Night Sky

Sky at Night

Look into the night sky and you look back in time. The sky at night is a vastness beyond comprehension, full of celestial objects like galaxies, stars, planets and the Moon. Gaze into a clear night sky and you get drawn into another world, a world as it was in the past. In this collection I am sharing my favourite night sky images and collections. All have been photographed in a natural environment and are real images. Many of my images tell a story, whether the subject matter or process of composition.
All photos captured with OM System.

June 10 2011. ISS flyby (0318-0324hrs) and a super bright magnitude of -3.4. With almost 100% cloud cover I was fearing the worst for viewing opportunity. However, such was the brightness of the ISS that is shone through the deck of clouds. I was amazed. Captured with Olympus E5 & 8mm fisheye. The International Space Station is the biggest and brightest object orbiting Earth. The station's solar panels span 240ft tip to tip, as wide as a football field. The ISS outshines Venus & only the sun and moon are brighter (The moon does not orbit the center of the earth, rather, they both revolve around the center of their masses called the barycenter).Camera settings: 15s exposures shot continuous during flyby, ISO 500, F3.5. Post processing black and white conversion of the ISS images stack/combined with colour sequence of the ground lit shots.
June 28_29 2011. Summer startrail with noctilucent. Clear skies following the passage of a cold front set up for a good night of star trailing and potential to catch noctilucent. I was lucky as the NLC's came out to dance approx 0300hrs just before daybreak, as seen her in the bottom right of the startrail. Foreground lit with flash bursts. Approx 800 exposures total for this one shot. Captured with Oly E5 & 7-14mm. 15s exposures, ISO 400, F4 shot continuous through night. Final stacked composite produced with startrails software.
