1. Night Sky

Sky at Night

Look into the night sky and you look back in time. The sky at night is a vastness beyond comprehension, full of celestial objects like galaxies, stars, planets and the Moon. Gaze into a clear night sky and you get drawn into another world, a world as it was in the past. In this collection I am sharing my favourite night sky images and collections. All have been photographed in a natural environment and are real images. Many of my images tell a story, whether the subject matter or process of composition.
All photos captured with OM System.

Festive ISS 22 Dec 2013. The International Space Station (ISS) flies over East Midlands (1759hrs flyby). A very bright flyby passing from the west to east with a festive combo :-)

How did I capture this? - Camera (Olympus E-M1) with fisheye lens (Oly 8mm) set on tripod. I aligned the west horizon with the Christmas decos to ensure it would originate over. Setting camera in manual mode, f3.5, ISO 320 & 10s exposure time & using remote cable to shoot continuous for approx a dozen or so shots. The garage and trees given a bit of illumination from painting with a torch. Once complete I imported all images & stacked in software to produce this composite image.
ISS & Space Shuttle Atlantis racing across the UK skies at 1657hrs on Nov 20 2009. It was the brightest body in the twilight skies at a magnitude of -3.3. Atlantis has been docked since Nov 18th 2009 and makes a great night time subject to capture. Taken with Olympus E3, 7-14mm lens of F4.0 for a total period of 2 mins 45s (11x15s continuous exposures). I lit up with tree with a strong torch for the duration of a couple of 15s exposures.
The International Space Station is the biggest, brightest object orbiting Earth. The station's solar arrays span 240-feet from tip to tip, almost as wide as a football field. The ISS outshines Venus; only the sun and Moon are brighter.
