1. Night Sky

Sky at Night

Look into the night sky and you look back in time. The sky at night is a vastness beyond comprehension, full of celestial objects like galaxies, stars, planets and the Moon. Gaze into a clear night sky and you get drawn into another world, a world as it was in the past. In this collection I am sharing my favourite night sky images and collections. All have been photographed in a natural environment and are real images. Many of my images tell a story, whether the subject matter or process of composition.
All photos captured with OM System.

18/19th Feb 2012. Mesmerising startrail from a very clear night in sth Leics. Targeting the celestial north pole star (polaris) via an apex from a building and using a 12mm focal length (12-6mm SWD) resulted in this wonderful spinner. Over 9hrs of earths rotation shown visibly through the stars spinning. Captured with Olympus E5 15s exposures shot continuous all night and kept from freezing over with dew/heat shield. Over 2000 images imported to StarStax which produced this final composite. Mesmerising :-)

Feb 11 2012. First startrail of the winter with snow. Had a very small time window (6pm-9pm) before the cloud rolled in. Sat camera in a snow covered field, air temp -6C, with dew/heat shield preventing from freezing over. Shot 15s exposures continuous for 3 hrs at ISO 500, F4. Captured with Olympus E5 and 7-14mm. Flash bursts from me running all over field. Orange light pollution clearly visible, enhanced via clouds as they rolled in. Had a slight tripod wobble near end of shoot too which caused trail to slip slightly.
