1. Mother Nature

Weather, UK

A selection of weather images from my tiny island. Wild and calm, wet and dry and most definitely extreme in one way shape or form.
EDIT - the occasional Euro location may also be thrown in this gallery too ;-)

Winter Sun 20 January 2014. A classic winter day in the life of our Sun as it rises, culminates and sets over a short 7 hr period (0900-1600hrs). Captured with Olympus E5 & 7-14mm lens.

How did I capture this? - I set up camera on tripod and calculated where the Sun would rise and set in respect of my composition. I took a few sample shots to expose both foreground and sky. Using a time lapse controller (set to snap away every 30s) I commenced at 0900hrs through tip 1600hrs - The images depict approx 1000hrs to 1500hrs. To engage the starburst effect I set the aperture to a high F22, ISO 200 and let the camera run all day. Once complete I imported all images into MAC and brought together all of the Suns, separated by 20min interval, within StarStax software. Once the composite was complete I merged another image showing the correctly exposed frozen foreground. The final composite is what you see. Been planning this shot all winter & very pleased with the outcome :-)

Olympus E5 ice test - Christmas Day 2010. The extraordinary cold snap continues. Overnight temps dropped to -10C. I set up a time lapse shoot to capture the Olympus E5 freezing over. E5 with 7-14mm was left out all night and the time lapse captured with the E3, which was fitted with the dew shield (to prevent ice forming on lens). The E3 was still firing away the following morning. I picked up the E5, switched on and that worked straight away too. These extreme cold tests are what the camera is up against when I capture my all night star trails and time lapses. Extreme gear for an extreme world :-) The amazing time lapse video will be uploaded soon.
