May 8 2011. Jellyfish clouds descend over the UK. These amazing clouds (Altocumulus Castellanus with trailing virga) made a rare appearance this evening. Only once in the past 10yrs have I seen such a wonderful display. A rare creature in this size and abundance. The amazing resemblance to jellyfish is caused by precipitation falling from the parent cloud and evaporating before reaching the ground. Truly spectacular, especially with the setting sun illuminating. Captured with Olympus E3 & 12-60mm SWD. 4 images stitched to produce panorama.
